A very good morning to everyone gathered here.
It gives me immense pleasure in presenting the 52 nd Annual sports report for the academic year 2022-2023

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our madam Principal
DR.(Tmt).V. MAHALAKSHMI NATCHATHIRAM
Teaching faculty members , nonteaching staff members and my beloved students to the 52 nd Annual sports day of our college.
Why do we play sports ?
Why college spend their time and effort in organizing sports events ?
Well a lot of parallels can be drawn between sports and life. Sport is a metaphor for life , more often than not ; the situation one faces in game or on the field have plenty in common with life situations like ambition , competition, perseverance , team work, attitude etc.
Sports is not just fun and play. But we get to learn valuable life lessons from it that helps in laying a strong foundation on which a successful life is built.
On this note I would like to announce the various participations and achievements of our college sports team and athletes in this academic year.
At the Zonal level our students have participated in 15 different disciplines such as Volley ball, Basket ball, Hockey, Hand ball, Throw ball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Foot ball, Table Tennis, Chess, Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Ball Badminton and athletics.
The following are the list of teams that have won in their respective events.
Kho – kho -2nd place
Kabaddi – 3rd place
Volley ball – 3rd place
Foot ball -4th place
Cricket – 4th place
At the Inter zonal level the following students were chosen to represent A Zone and have won various accolades in their respective events for our college.

After assessing the students skill in the inter zonal level, the best players are selected to represent the University of Madras team at the inter university level each year.
This year the following students have excelled in their respective games and have been selected for University teams.
1. R.Kanchana I Year B.Com (G) in kabaddi
2. M.Madhu Bala III Year B.Com (G) in kho-kho
Apart from the zonal and inter Zonal Tournaments, athletes from our college have also participated and won in various prestigious open Tournaments.
The following are the list of open events that our college has competed in this academic year.
National Level Participants -12
South Zonelevel-14
State Level Participants – 101
Zonal Level Participants – 162
Disrtct Level Participants – 60
To promote sports and foster participatory spirit the college authorities organize and conduct various events every year.
The following is the list of meritorious winners from Shift I for this year.
1.The overall championship was bagged by the defending champions COMMERCE with a grand total of 201 points.
2.The second place was secured by the department of ECONOMICS with 175 points.
3.The third place goes to the department of TAMIL with the total of 86 points.
In shift – II,
1.The overall championship was bagged by B.COM(G) with 203 points.
2.The second place was won by B.COM(CS) with a total of 185 points.
3.The third place was won by B.COM (A&F) with a total of 138points.

Your collective effort will always be remembered.

From the bottom of my heart I thank and appreciate all the coaches and the marker for their dedicated hard work.
In conclusion, once again ,I express my heartfelt thanks to the Guest of honor Thiru.S.SIVA , Assistant Commissioner of Police , (TPS) ,Guindy Range Chennai, and our Chief Guest major Dr. S .INDIRA Director of Physical Education J.B.A.S. college for women Chennai, for their gracious presence.
I would be failing in my duty if I do not extend my gratitude to the management for their support and permission to conduct this sport meet.
I extend my heartfelt thank to our madam principal who is the backbone for the successful conduct of this event.
I also extend my sincere thanks to all the teaching and non teaching staff who have toiled in helping our students to reach new heights in the field of sports.
