Department of Botany
DEPARTMENT HISTORY:
The Department of Botany of our College was started and the course was affiliated to the University of Madras in the academic year 1976 – 1977 as Allied Paper to the Zoology and Chemistry major subjects.
The Department of Botany is housed on the first floor of the Pachaiyappar Block of our college with the laboratory. Initially, two batches of the students along with two approved lectures were serving in the department. Subsequently in the year 2015 to 2016 the sanctioned strength for Zoology major was increased to fifty students along with Chemistry students and the total strength for allied botany is 80 students of three batches.
Endowment prize was instituted in the name of Thiru R.M. Veerappan in the year 1985 – 1986 for the first rank holder of Botany allied, worth about Rs.1000/- as a Book Prize.
The Botany laboratory is fully equipped with required number of books purchased by UGC grant, glass wares, chemicals and Microscopes for the students to carry out the practical.

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS:
Since 2003 – 2004 Allied Botany students are getting University ranks. In the year 2007-2008, K.Mahalakshmi of II B.Sc Chemistry secured 100% in the theory examinations. The Department is privileged with very good results of more than 75% to 100% pass percentage, with many students securing 100 marks in practical and theory as well.
