ZOOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
ONE DAY WORKSHOP – “SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND HANDS ON TRAINING ON AQUARIUM CONSTRUCTION AND FISH FEED PREPARATION”
Staffs and students of the Department of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology organized one day workshop 2023-2024 titled, “Skill Development and Hands on Training on Aquarium Construction and Fish Feed Preparation” for our department students and conducted it successfully on 31st January 2024 in the Zoology Laboratory.
Since our students have aquarium construction and fish feed preparation in their curriculum, this skill development program was organized with an intension to provide hands on training so as to enhance practical knowledge of aquarium construction and fish feed preparation among our students.
For this occasion our dynamic Principal, Dr.V.Malarvizhi was our Patron and Dr.S.Senthil Kumari, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department was our convenor. Staff members Dr.A.Anbuselvi, Dr.A.Subashini, Dr.N.Amudha and Dr.J.Madhuvandhi were the Organising Secretaries.
Dr.R.Krishnamurthy, Associate Professor and Dr.K.Maheshkumar, Assistant Professor, from the PG and Research Department of Zoology and Aquaculture, Government Arts College, Nandanam were our resource person for this skill development and hands on training.
We began the program with the prayer song by our students. Convenor of this event, Dr.S.Senthil Kumari welcomed the gathering by her welcome address. Our beloved Principal and Patron of this skill development program, Dr.V.Malarvizhi delivered the special address. Our final year student Mrs.A.Subashini introduced our resource person Dr.R.Krishnamurthy and Miss.Lathika Dharshini introduced our resource person Dr.K.Maheshkumar. Resource persons were honoured by our Principal. Convenor, Dr.S.Senthil Kumari honoured our Principal.
Resource person Dr.K.Maheshkumar took over the forenoon session. He elaborately explained how to set up of an home aquarium, various materials required and maintenance of aquarium in simple manner. He demonstrated construction of a glass aquarium as hands on training and presented it to our students to be maintained in the department.
Dr.R.Krishnamurthy took over the afternoon session and delivered lecture on fish feed preparation. He explained the various components and compositions of ingredients required for the preparation of the fish feed. Dr.K.Maheshkumar demonstrated fish feed preparation procedure in a step by step manner for our students to learn it easily.
Staff members from various departments participated in this workshop. Students had lively sessions and learnt practically how to setup an aquarium and the various steps in preparation of fish feed. All the first, second and final year students from the department of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology actively participated in this hands on training program. About 127 students got benefited by this skill development program. Our resource persons distributed participation certificates to all the student participants.
Dr.N.Amudha, Assistant professor, rendered vote of thanks. The program ended with the National Anthem. No doubt, this hands-on training has developed confidence in the minds of our young graduates to turnout as successful entrepreneur in future.
Workshop 2023-2024 Inauguration
“Tools and Techniques in Biotechnology” one day Workshop at Apex Biotechnology Training and Research Institute, Chennai on 12th March 2024
One day Workshop titled “Tools and Techniques in Biotechnology” in collaboration with Apex Biotechnology Training and Research Institute, Chennai was conducted on 12th March 2024 at the Apex Research Institute.
Dr.V.Malarvizhi, Principal, Chellammal Women’s College was the patron. Dr.M.Krishnaraj, and Dr.S.Senthil Kumari, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Advanced zoology and Biotechnol ogy, Chellammal Women’s College were the convenors. This workshop was organized by the staff members Dr. A. Anbuselvi, Dr. A. Subhasini, Dr. N. Amudha, and Dr. J. Madhuvanthi.
Director of Apex Research Institute, Dr.M.Krishnaraj explained the various instruments and apparatus and their working methodology elaborately and gave hands on training for our students to handle it for work purpose. He demonstrated the various techniques used in biotech and in microbiology research works in the laboratories. Students had an interactive session with the resource person and with the technicians and learnt the techniques with most attention.
Staffs and all the final year students from B.Sc Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology department attend the workshop. Overall, 40 students attended the workshop. Participation certificates were given to the student participants.

In the intercollegiate competition conducted by the Ethiraj College, final year students of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology – C.Mary Jasmine and S.S.Preethisree won First prize for Spotter Identification. S.Vaishali, K.AfrinaBanu and N.Abinayasree got Third prize for Model making
In the intercollegiate competition conducted by DG Vaishanava College, Final year students of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology – K.Bhanusri and A.Subashini won First prize for Fireless cooking.
In the intercollegiate competition conducted by The New College, Final year students of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology –N.Abinayasree and K.Bhanusri got Third prize for Face painting
Students from the Department of Advanced zoology and Biotechnology participated in the intercollegiate competition conducted by Madras Christian college too.
In the intercollegiate Tamil Essay Writing competition conducted by the Tamizh Ilakkiya Mandram – S.Preethika of III B.Sc got Third prize.
One day Workshop organized on “Molecular Techniques in Biotechnology” in collaboration with ARMATS BIOTEK Training and Research Institute (ABTRI), Guindy, Chennai and conducted it on 7th January 2023 at ABTRI LAB.
Staffs and students of the Department of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology have conducted two days intra department competition “ECO FEST – 2023” on 9th and 10th January 2023.

Three Days Online Intercollegiate competition “AQUAFEST – 2021” conducted from 4th October to 6th October 2021.
An Awareness Programme on “WATER CONSERVATION” was organized along with an E-Quiz competition and successfully conducted on 25th February 2022.
A Special Lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights and Patenting of Biological Materials” was organized on 26th April 2022. Ms.A.HASHIKA, BBA., LLB., Practicing Advocate of Madras High Court was our Guest Speaker for the day.

Online E-Quiz competition titled – “Covid-19: Emerging and Re – Emerging of pathogens on Human Life” –was organized on 6th June 2020 during the pandemic situation.
Webinar on Entrepreneurship program, “Vermitechnology – a promising tool for sustainable agriculture in 21st century” was conducted on 9th November, 2020. Dr.Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Soil Biologist, Ecologist and former Director of Eco-science Research Foundation, Chennai was our Guest Speaker.
Intercollegiate – Interdisciplinary seminar on “Environment and Human Health’’ was conducted on 25th September 2019. Dr. Adlyne Reena Solomon M.B.B.S., D.N.B (Gen. Med)., DM (Endo.), Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolish, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Porur was our chief Guest.
One day Workshop on “Biomolecular Techniques’’ was conducted in Central Research Laboratory (CRL) of the MAHER University on 22nd February 2020 in collaboration with Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER UNIVERSITY).
For the School of Science, a seminar “Living with Nature” was conducted on 22nd February 2019. Former Principal, Dr.D.Baskaran M.Sc.,Ph.D., Apollo Arts and Science College was our Guest speaker. This seminar was conducted in co-ordination by all the science Departments of the Chellammal Women’s College.
Two days state level Workshop on “Bio-Instrumentation and Molecular Techniques” conducted on 11th – 12th October 2017 in collaboration with Life Tech Research Centre.
