TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT MANJAPPAI AWARD (2025-2026)

Chellammal Women’s College has been honoured with the Tamil Nadu Manjappai Award 2026, securing First Place along with a cash award of Rs.10,00,000 (Rupees Ten Lakhs). The College achieved a score of 100/100, successfully fulfilling all sixteen evaluation criteria prescribed for the award.

The award was presented by Hon’ble Minister Thiru. Thangam Thenarasu, Minister of Finance and Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu, Government of Tamil Nadu, Tmt. Supriya Sahu, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary to Government Environment, Climate Change and Forests Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and Dr. M. Jayanthi, I.F.S., Chairperson, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board at the Manjappai Award Ceremony 2026 held on 6th March 2026 at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat. Prof. Dr. V. Malarvizhi, Principal of Chellammal Women’s College, and Dr. G. Vimala, Eco Club Coordinator, received the award on behalf of the institution for their exemplary contribution in implementing ban on single use plastics and encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives in the campus. The achievement reflects the dedicated efforts of the Eco Club and Swachhata Action Plan (SAP) committee, led by Dr. V. Malarvizhi as Chairperson and coordinated by Dr. G. Vimala

 

TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT GREEN CHAMPION AWARD (2024-2025)

Chellammal Women’s College has been honoured with the Tamil Nadu Green Champion Award, carrying a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh). The College fulfilled 11 of the 13 prescribed evaluation criteria, supported by the documented evidences. The award was received by the Principal Prof. Dr. V. Malarvizhi along with the Coordinator Dr. S. Susa, and the Eco Club Committee members which was presented by the Chennai District Collector on 15th August 2025 at the Chennai Collectorate Office, during the 79th Independence Day celebrations, in recognition of the Institution’s consistent sustainable development practices and meaningful community engagement.

The College was selected from 35 shortlisted applicants representing educational institutions, individuals, non-governmental organisations, and industries across Chennai district for exemplary contribution in the field of environmental protection and awareness. The success of this initiative is attributed to the visionary and dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. V. Malarvizhi, Principal of Chellammal Women’s College. Under her guidance, the College has developed green infrastructure throughout the campus, including solar energy installations, rainwater harvesting facilities, organised composting units, etc., which reflects public accountability and good governance.
