  3. Department Association Inauguration “COMFEST 2023-2024” to be conducted on 07.2023 at Seminar hall Chellammal Women’s College, Chennai. Two Guest Lectures conducted by the department.

  • On 12.2019 we conducted the Guest Lecture on Indian Financial Systems Money Market & Capital Market to the B.Com II Year Students by Dr. K. Vimala, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Quid-E-Millet Government College for Women.
  • On 12.2019 we conducted the Guest Lecture to the B.Com III Year students on Set off and carry forward losses by our Resource person Dr. K. Vinotha, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Commerce, Sri Kanayaka Parameshwari Arts & Science College.

Inaugration of Department Association

Our department inaugurated the Department Association on 05.09.2019 and conducted various competitions to the students of the department under the Fest Comstar and prizes awarded to the winning students.

Workshop

One day Faculty Workshop was conducted on 10.12.2019 on “Indian Accounting Standards” by a Resource Person “CA Shankara Narayanan” at Seminar Hall.  He explained to 100 faculties have benefitted about the major aspects of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles of UK &US and later he explains the Companies Act 2013 and it brought convergence with International Financial Reporting Standards.

Upgradation of the department

The department has applied for the PG & Research by the University of Madras.

Result

University  result shows that our department showed 100% pass in all the subjects.

For the 3rd year Bachelor of Commerce (Shift – I) – Date: 19th January 2020 to 22nd January 2020

Objective of Educational Tour:

  • To know about the commercial products in Cochin and Munnar.
  • To learn about the functioning of the tea estate
  • To explore the agro based food processing industries.
  • To study the climatic change and the crops that grows well in that climate.
  • To understand the history of the monuments and their culture.

  • To bring the awareness among students about the usage of online portals for EFiling.
  • To learn about the scope of Income Tax Filing in online mode.

Students actively participated in the workshop.  A Demo was shown with a student volunteer. The students learnt how to apply for PAN Card and to file for Income Tax Returns in online mode. The students asked several questions and made the session an interactive one.

The workshop really served the objective of the programme.  All the students were taught about the importance of E-Filing. Students enthusiastically learnt the practical aspects of the concepts of Income Tax.

Students actively participated in the Program.  The students were enlightened about the impact of Savings, Investment Credit cards, Loans and CIBIL Rating. The students asked several questions and made the session an interactive one.

Outcome

The Awareness Program really served the objective of the programme.  All the students were taught about the frauds that are associated with investments. They learnt about the Importance of CIBIL Score and got clarified that 300, 500 and 900 points refer to Low, Medium and High CIBIL Scores respectively required for applying for loans. Students enthusiastically learnt the practical aspects of Power of compounding, Government social security schemes, surety and Nominations with relevance to Credit cards and loans.

  • Deepen Social and Historical Knowledge
  • Interactive Learning and Entertainment

Student Involvement

The Tour team comprised of 48 Students of Final year B.com accompanied by 3 Faculty Members.  The Journey began on the evening of 7th February 2023 from Chennai Central to Kozhikode via train.After Refreshments in the Hotel, The trip started with visiting 900 Kandi Eco Park Which is well known for Forest adventures like Jeep Safari, Glass Bridge,Giant Swing, Zipline, Free Walk. Students were thrilled to experience the jungle vibes.

The team was then directed to Soochipaara Falls a three tiered waterfalls surrounded by evergreen forests. The students felt refreshed and rejuvenated in the cold waters of the falls.

During the night, Sumptuous dinner and campfire was arranged.

After a pleasant stay, The team arrived at the Karapuzha Dam noted for its Longest Zip Line the most sensational adventure of the spot. Students enjoyed the experience. The team then geared for the most awaited trekking moment at Edukkal Cave which stands in the History for Carvings done by the Habitats belonging to the period of more than 6000 years ago. The challenging part was the steep hill with hard rock climbing which made the trek a thrilled one. They also enjoyed a short 12D film.

On the way Back to the Calicut City, A Tea Plantation visit was also done to enrich the students about the making of tea. They had refreshments in the view point and also a short history of the chain tree. The students also had some shopping time. The Four days trip came to an end at the same Kozhikode Railway station on 9th February 2023. The team landed in Chennai the next morning safely carrying loads of memories to cherish for this trip.

Outcome

The Educational Tour really served the objective of the programme.  All the students enthusiastically participated in the tour and they thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The Tour definitely proved to be a powerful motivator providing exposure of the concepts learnt along with cultural observation which would reflect in their better academic performances.

Over the day of 28 /10 /2021, we conducted the  Virtual Guest Lecture on “Marketing mix – New Era” done by our resource person “Dr. M. Radhikashree,  Professor, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute”. This lecture is specially conducted for our Second  year B.com students (2020 – 2023).  And she explains the major aspects of Marketing and the influence of marketing for the new era.

The objective of this Guest Lecture was threefold:

  • To enlighten the students about the four “P”, product, price, promotion and place.
  • To teach the forces affecting the marketing mix
  • To explain the factors affecting the product
  • To give the knowledge about the maketing process

Guest Lecture Format

Our Guest Lecture is comprised only one plenary sessions, with our speaker Dr. M. Radhikashree, spokes the Merits and demerits of marketing management. The Lecture was structured to foster discussion between participants around the core themes of the topics. It was clearly explained by the resource person and they gave the clear chart of the marketing mix. She shared his valuable experiences with the students which will equip them to handle the marketing and promoting  of the products.

To encourage student participation in the Guest Lecture, students were supported to attend through guidance of their respected class teachers. The students are so passionate and dynamic.   • Webinar conducted on Investors Awareness Programme- Finacial Litracy on 12.2020 by Miss. Rishab Lunai. Around 200 students participated and got benefitted.
  • Seminar conducted on Digital Marketing at 01.2021 by Mr. Laven Lokesh Barani. Around 150 students from the Second and third year were the beneficiaries for this programme.

Over the day of 05 /01/2022, we inaugurated the “Manoranjitham” A three days Workshop (A special project initiative of Inner Wheel District 323) organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Chennai Symphony.  The Welcome Address  was given by Dr. T. Jayasheela, Assistant Professor – Shift I, Chellammal Women’s College, Special Address given by Dr. G. Premasundari, Principal-in-charge of Chellammal Women’s College. And the Workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Kamala Selvam, Chairman, Inner Wheel District.
